About MangaPlay Studio
What It Does
MangaPlay Studio turns plain-text scripts into visual manga storyboards and screenplay layouts. You type your story in a simple format and the tool renders it as pages with panels, dialogue, sound effects, and action lines — instantly, in your browser. No drawing skills required. No setup. No sign-up.
How It Works
There is no AI involved. MangaPlay Studio uses pure math-based text measurement to calculate where every element lands on the page — the same way a typesetter would lay out a print publication. It measures your text, works out the spacing, and draws the panels. The preview updates as you type.
It runs entirely in your browser. Your scripts stay on your device (or in your Google Drive if you use the Chrome extension). Nothing passes through a server. We have no servers.
Who Made It
MangaPlay Studio is built by Pistol Taeja @ Absolutely Skint. It started because I was working on my manga and kept using MSPaint to sketch out rough page layouts for collaborators. Eventually I built a tool to turn my writing directly into storyboards so I could communicate page layouts without drawing them by hand.
That tool became MangaPlay Studio.
What Makes It Different
Most storyboarding tools expect you to draw or drag-and-drop assets. MangaPlay Studio works from text. You write, it lays out. The goal is speed — get your story from your head onto a visual page as fast as you can type. It is 100% human-made. No AI generation, no machine learning, no black boxes. Just clean layout math and a focus on getting your story out there.
